As Little Feat sang "I've seen the bright lights of Memphis..." - and we did!

In February thanks to the generous help of fans and friends the Riders were all able to travel to the International Folk Alliance conference held annually in Memphis, TN (birthplace of Rock'n'Roll). During this pilgrimage to Rock'n'Roll Mecca the band played 5 showcases in 4 nights, recorded on wax cylinder  recorder from the 1800's, ate some great ribs, saw/heard some great music, and did a recording session at the one and only Sun Studios (Elvis, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins).

The trip was a success and the tunes recorded at Sun and on the wax cylinder will be available soon. Pictures can be seen at: http://www.facebook.com/theridersmusic

Next on the horizon is Carriage House Media's In The Room series. This TV series showcases the artistic process and episodes range from painters to musicians to photographers and beyond. Catch a glimpse of the trailer for the series at: http://vimeo.com/10027536

See you soon

the Riders just finished up a two night San Diego run at two of the most prestigious venues in Southern California.

On Thursday 8/13 the Riders performed at Anthology. Live footage of this concert can be seen on the Riders photo page, youtube, or facebook.com/theridersmusic

On Friday 8/14 the Riders sent their "bandbassadors" (Devin & Tom) to Humphrey's By The Bay to open (and perform with) 70's hit-makers America. Devin & Tom were invited to perform the grand finale of "Horse With No Name" with America. Devin took a solo that made the crowd holler for more as Tom sang harmonies with the band and played the tambourine. Where to begin?! Let's start with a great review of 200 Miles From Everywhere... from the San Diego Troubadour. Here's a little blurb for you:

"If you can imagine U2's Bono fronting the E Street Band with a couple of the Heartbreakers sitting in, you might have some idea of what the Riders sound like. Their brand of rock is firmly rooted in Americana, but their excursions into other styles reveal their versatility and sense of musical adventure...This is a band that has distilled its influences into a very coherent and focused musical statement." NEW RECORDINGS NOW AVAILABLE!!

Overnight Success

Recorded in 24 hours at Signature Sound Studios (U2, Blink 182, Jewel) in San Diego, Tom Cusimano & The Riders have taken their years of experience playing off of one another and recorded eight new tracks that showcase each of their individual talents as musicians and their incredible sense as an ensemble. From Lavalle Houser’s thundering funk-fueled bass lines locked into Jimmy Olson’s Keith Moon influenced rhythms on drums mixed with Neil MacPherson’s Jimmy Smith style of virtuosity on B3, Wurlitzer, and piano, all fueling the fire of Tom Cusimano’s Bob Dylan/Bruce Springsteen inspired lyrics and Mark Knopfler meets Dave Matthews style of guitar this group found the muse and held on tight. While capturing every emotion and piece of raw energy these songs represent these four musicians managed to keep the mood light so you can’t stop your foot from tapping along to the beat and your lips from smiling at every hook.

In other news...

The Riders acoustic tour of the country is just about wrapped up (one more show in LA on Dec 5th) and was a great success. Selling out of CDs on the road, playing a ton of great shows and meeting tons of new people. Some of my favorite moments include a cover of The Band's The Weight with 28 North in Pittsburgh, an extremely interactive crowd in Charlotte, seeing friends I hadn't seen in years and utilizing their couches and/or spare bedrooms. Really my mind is filled with a thousand great memories and conversations with new friends from the tour...too many to list. Thanks for making it so great!

Because of all the support and enthusiasm we have decided to record a few more tracks next month.

Stay tuned for more info on the upcoming recordings...

Happy Thanksgiving!

200 Miles From Everywhere…

It’s been a while since the last update, but we feel it’s been worth the wait.

In the past year we have been writing, rehearsing and recording our first full-length album entitled 200 Miles From Everywhere…

The album was recorded and mixed at American Recording Co. in Calabasas, CA. Produced by Richie Podolor (Three Dog Night, Steppenwolf, Michelle Branch) & engineered by Bill Cooper (Ella Fitzgerald, John Mayall, Three Dog Night) we were also fortunate enough to use the same Analog Nieve recording console, Hammond B3, & piano used on so many #1’s over the past 50 years. Also contributing to the record is Rami Jaffee (Piano, Hammond B3, & Accordion) from the Grammy winning band The Wallflowers. Rami’s resume also includes hits by the Foo Fighters, Johnny Cash, and Melissa Etheridge to name a few.

Currently the record is being pressed and will be available very soon on CD Baby until major distribution can be secured.

In the meantime you can hear three songs off of the record at www.myspace.com/theriders

Check back soon for more updates, show details, and our soon to be added Riders Store featuring t-shirts, mugs, & Stickers.

Enjoy!

6-05

Just a quick update, we want to get back to rehearsing and writing....
The Riders just played an outdoor show for the 2005 Special Olympics in Long Beach which included covers of Spencer Davis Group's "Gimmie Some Lovin", Creedence Clearwater Revival's "Green River", & Elvis' "Burning Love".
We have also been asked to compete in the Sammy Hagar/Cabo Wabo Sponsored Battle of the Bands in Los Angeles on June 26th so please come out and show your support.
Other than that we have been rehearsing and writing new material furiously; so be sure to check us out live and hear the new tunes.
Great thanks to Russ Gordon for all of his help on revamping the website!!
See ya soon!

2-05

The Riders recently finished up recording two more songs (Coalinga & The Minute) which can be found here in the music section. Feel free to download and put on you iPod!
Check back soon for more updates and The Riders upcoming show schedule.

12-04

Time to recap the year...

Since our last update a lot of great things have been happening to The Riders. In late September The Riders were featured on Los Angeles’ 95.5 KLOS Local Licks.

In addition to playing four songs on the air, many local shows were promoted on the air.

The Riders played a successful string of shows in Los Angeles at The Gig, Room 5, The House of Blues Foundation Room, and 14 Below. Wrapping up a great year of live performances was a phenomenal show at the Hard Rock Café. Thanks to all of our fans for coming out and supporting The Riders.

To round out 2004, The Riders have three instrumental tracks being featured in the Speed Network NASCAR documentary, “Jimmie Johnson: Common Thread,” presented by Levi-Strauss Signature, which will be airing throughout December. Check out www.speedtv.com for details and airing information. The Riders will also be featured on the Levi-Strauss Signature website in January.

2005 looks to be another stellar year for The Riders…

In early January, The Riders plan to get back into the studio and record a few more songs.

From there, The Riders will be competing in The Battle of the Bands at the Hard Rock Café at Universal City Walk on January 19th. This event is sponsored by Budweiser and Guitar Center, so please come out and cheer us on to victory.

The Riders will also be performing at the Viper Room on Sunset Blvd. in mid-February.

Plans are also in the works to play San Francisco, San Diego, Santa Barbara, and many other regional venues outside of Los Angeles.

The Riders are also awaiting a response to play at South By Southwest in Austin, Texas in March.
